Allis C final drive problem

I am rebuilding a 1950 Allis C. I have completed everything in front of the drive shaft and all of those parts are working well. Yesterday I took it out for a ride and discovered that the left final drive wasn't OK. The bull gear was eating away at the inside of the pan housing. I took the housing off. The bull gear was loose and could move on the shaft almost an inch. The shaft is splined and so the gear would turn when driven by the axel shaft. I am guessing that sometime in the history of this tractor some one took it apart and then put it back together and left out a lot of the parts. In the Dealer Parts Catalog, pages 104 & 105, it shows that there are 10 separate items that go on this shaft which would, among other things, keep the bull gear in place. My question is where is the best place to get these parts? I can't find them all in any of the parts catalogs that I have, ie., Steiner, All States, and DJS. I might have go to salvage yards or buy my own parts tractor? Does anyone have any advice or idea for me of the best way to deal with this?

There are so many of those tractors around, I would definitely just get a used final drive. Probably will be complete, and cheaper and easier than getting the parts you need. Just make sure, if you do, that you get a C final drive, and not a B.

Going by your handle I will think your to far from Missouri to get one from me but I have 2 part C tractors

C or CA? 1950 would most likely be a CA. The final drives for C's are different than the final drives for the CA's.

Regarding a C or CA, the C has a three speed transmission, CA has four. Then you know which final drive to look for. I"d switch the whole thing, rather than parts.

My serial number is 81926 and according to my Allis Chalmers Data Book that makes it a 1950 C. If you have different info than that, I would like to hear it.

As per the serial number list on this site the last year for the C was 1949 starting with serial number 68281. I do not know how many where mad in 1949 but it would be likely that your is a 1949. Now if it has the clutch in the right side rear end if I am thinking right then it would be a CA which first built in 1950

Are you located around Kansas City or north? If so I could probably get a pick up. What would the price be for the complete final drive shaft including all of the items on the shaft?

The C was built up to 1950, with the last one built having a serial number of 84030. The CA started in 1950 at sn 14.

The Allis serial number list on this site has many errors and that is one of them. The ending number for model C was 84030 and the ending year was 1950.

Well the list is the starting number for the year so I figured they would have at least made them up til the end of 1949. But I have found most places with serial number list to be wrong in some way or another

True but we do know that Allis kept track of production by last tractor built in any given year until the D series and after when they changed to begining number each year. Your number is correct for beginning of 1949 but the last one built and when it was built is known fact.

That is how they are listed on the other AC site. C ends with #84030 and CA ends with #321 BOTH in 1950.
