D 14 split ??????

I'm a Farmall guy but, I'm doing a favor for a relative. I've split his D 14 due to a screeching noise in the power director area. I previously rebuilt the engine, power steering, clutch, carburetor, distributor, etc. Everything on that end is working fine. All of a sudden and for no apparent reason this noise appeared. The power director works fine. After splitting the tractor at the torque tube/transmission area, I found a piece of metal in the bottom of the shifter area as well as pieces of metal that don't belong in this area. . I have determined this to be the oil baffle for the shifter forks. There is a ton of metal shavings in the bottom of the transmission and power director area and on all of the inside parts. I'm assuming they have come from the baffle being chewed up by the transmission gears. I have also noted I will have to replace the PTO inner seal and the main shaft seals. My question is should I also remove the hydraulic lift assembly and replace the hose to the hydraulic cylinder? Should I also look at the hydraulic pump assembly? The hydraulic system seems to work OK, but in the interest of being into it this far, should I be proactive and rebuild it?

Hydraulic pump is separate oil supply so there should be no schrapnel in it. Suit yourself on the hose or hyd pump. They can always be done later on if needed.

Thanks for the reply. And you are right, the hydraulic system is separate. I think I'm going to look at they hydraulic system anyways. The tractor resides about 65 miles away from me and I don't want to have to drag it here again at some point in the future. It's a 1959 model so no telling what I might find in there.
