Question on starting a WC

My question is similar to the one two doors down about magnetos. Last Fall, I acquired a 39 WC that had been sitting for many years under a tarp. Got it running with minimal hassle, but it died about a minute later, as if it was running out of electrical. First one cylinder dropped, then another, then it stalled altogeter. Left it go until today. Change the condenser, cleaned up and set the points to .020 and put new plugs in it.

Plenty of spark at the plug, gas in the carburetor, but could not get it to fire (hand crank only). My question is, is it possible that I could have set it up 180 degrees out. The wires went back to the same plugs, and i feel confident that I have the "C" and the beveled tooth on the magneto mated properly.

I wonder if I should try dragging it to start it?

How did you take the magneto off? Did you try to get the number one cylinder on TDC compression stroke. Or did you just look at the rotor position and reinstall magneto with rotor in same position?

If you tried to get the engine on compression stroke. It is possible you were on the exhaust stroke by mistake. It happens a lot.

Never pulled the mag, only took the cap/ wires off and then the inner part that has the gear on it . Mag stayed on tractor.

Shouldn't be out of time then. Just need to make sure the wires are correct. Starting at top left going clockwise. 1-3-4-2

The rotor gears. The mark on the little gear at 12:00 position. Then point the rotor just below the timing lug on the number one position. Then put the large cap on.
