transmission fluid on a C model

recently got a reasonable seal on a a/c C model with a 72" woods mower, like any older machine it needs some attention, one thing i noticed is a noise in neutal with the clutch released, its probapby there when driving too, but cant hear it over the engine. im thinking its either a input shaft or countershaft bearing. i read somewhere that the trans oil is 20wt motor oil, im wondering if it would be better (and buy me some time) to run a 80/90 in the trans like the final drives have. im not going to be using the hydraulic lift, just the pto for the mower, good/bad idea? i realize at some point the bearing will go regardless, but if a 80/90 would be better and let it make it a last a little longer-why not?

Not uncommon for them to be a bit noisiey so good chance you have no problems any how. My self I run the 303 UTF in my C and have for decades and yes mine makes some noise also

You can use 990 weight unless you have hydraulics. If you have hydraulics you have to use 20 weight or a "tractor lube".

It has a hydraulic lift but cylinder isnt hooked up. I dont plan on ever using it, just going to be a mower. Saw rural king has "303" fluid, might consider that.

If you have an Orschen's farm and home place around if you watch you can find that 303UTF on sale for $19.95 regular price is $24.95

Got a 5 gal bucket of 303 yesterday at rural king, not sure what it ran, got quite a few things for the new toy, oil, filter, orc, exhaust flapper for the stack, a I & T book (more like a panphet on that series) I just might try fabbing up a 3 point someday, for now just going to get done whats needed and enjoy not spending forever mowing the lawn. I'll get a picture up sometime later.

The front tires are temporary spares. I have the original rims, no tires on them though. Has some sort of cast iron weights on the inside of the rear rims

My C has a front lift for things like a snow plow which i made form pictures one of the guys on here sent me plus to off set the weight up front I built a 3 point on it
