B Toolbox Shroud

The bottom inch or so of my shroud is pretty well gone, and the bolts are seized. They appear to thread directly into the cast on the torque tube, so is there anyway to get them out? Other than busting them off and trying to drill them? Will heat help at all in this case?

Thanks,Tim

Yep, heat is your friend. Heat the heads until red then let cool down. Then give them a pretty good tap with punch and hammer before you try to turn them and most all will come out. If you pay attention it is pretty easy to tell if they are twisting or turning out. If it makes you feel good spray your favorite penetrating oil on them but it will make little if any difference, it does however give you a good excuse to not work on it while "soaking" LOL

Heat and then pour ATF on them and more heat. Do that a few times and wait till they have cooled down. May take a few times of doing that to free them up

I have done several different badly rusted B's and C's that were like that. I use a bernzomatic map torch. After removing the gas tank I aim the torch over the threads with one hand. Using a large handled screwdriver after heating for a minute I put pressure to turn it out keeping the heat over the threads in the torque tube. The normally turn right out. I would guess the bernzomatic propane would work also but would take longer before the cast had expanded to release its hold.
