I am not a regular here on the AC forum. I am looking at some b and c tractors and was wondering if the only big difference is the front end? Could any of you tell me if motor, tranny, rear end etc. is the same? Thanks much.

The final drives on a C sit wider. B was only narrow front but a C could be had with a wide front. Engine and tranny are the same.

The C is a two row tractor and the B a one row. The rear end of the C is wider, and if a wide front the front axle will be wider.

They are different on each end. B typically has an arched front axle, and is made to straddle one row. Rear end is narrower than the C. C is a two row tractor.

The engine is the same on both but as the others have said a few other things are different

I'v seen B's with C rear ends and the other way around so I know they change out. It's likely they change at the torque tube. Front ends as well can inter change but not everything. Steering boxes are different as is the way the work. So there are some things that work some things that don't. Good little tractor and hard working.

Like what?? Most of the sheet metal is the same but things like the steering box is different. I.E. if you try to put a wide front form a B on a C you will turn the steering wheel left to go right. If I remember right the transmission are not the same either. They will swap out but the gear ratios are different.

B's had 3 front end options over the years,C also had 3 front end options all different from the B ones.As said the C final drives are wider,C always had the bolt on rear hubs the B changed to the same hub during the later part of production.B first had the BE engine but changed over to the CE engine when the C went into production.C has a wider draw bar. Both had several fender variations over the years.C has a different grill to make room for the steering arm.C and B steering boxes turn opposite each other.B had a at least 4 front wheel options over the years, have seen 3 different front wheels on a C

The tractors B and C , use the same radiator, fan, hood, engine, clutch, transmission, bevel gear, and pto housing...the radiator shroud is cut out on the C for the second steering gear box drive.... the C final drives are 6 inches wider on each side or 12 inches total tractor width.. Internal parts can not be mixed.. but you can remove a final drive case and install the entire unit off the other tractor. The tractors use the same rims and tires.. the wheel HUB is different as the final drive bull axle is different.
The steering boxes are different and not interchangeable. The steering box on a B drives directly to the left side wheel king pin... the C steering box drives to a second gear box in front of the radiator as most C tractors were narrow front ends.. All B tractors were wide front ends. C could be either.

Ok with others posting I am getting my answers I always wanted a c but not a b. Been around them some but no expert. Would really like an rc.

I have 4 C on my place 2 are runners and 2 are parts machines. I did have a B many years ago but some one borrowed it with out permission and left it in the creek and it did not swim well

The B only came with a WIDE front axle, non-adjustable or adjustable.Adjustable wide
fronts were special orders and came with the adjustable rearwheels like the C used.
The C came with a single front wheel, tricycle front or wide front.
