WD governer came apart again

Hello fellow Allis fans. Last summer my governer weights broke off taking the gear/bracket with it. I purchased a used assembly and installed it everything looked good and ran all fall . Now after about 50hrs of farming this spring the weights broke off again. I'm I missing something? I set the rpm to 1750 rpm last summer.
I sure could use some insite.
Thank you.

Most of the time when governor weights explode, they damage the camshaft gear and maybe even the crankshaft gear. These gears MUST be in good condition so they run smoothly and the governor weights aren't being shaken when they run. Also, there is a dowel pin to set the backlash on the governor gear to camshaft gear. If you changed complete governors, this backlash should have been checked. Too tight or too loose is a bad thing.

How do you adjust the backlash with the dowel pin? And there is 2
chipped gear teeth on the crank gear I sanded them smooth there was
noticeable backlash but i did not like how the driven gear rode on
the inside edge of the crank gear.

Backlash is adjusted by leaving the three governor housing bolts snug, and pivoting the whole thing on the bottom bolt. The two top holes are oversized and bottom bolt is 3/8". The dowel pin is then drilled somewhere thru the governor housing into the block so it stays put and can be serviced on and off and always returns to the same backlash setting. If you changed housings, that may now be different.

Thanks alot for the help, I need to get some parts coming. In my reply I meant cam gear not the crank gear its in good shape. I will put a dial on it this time.

The governor weights, pins, clips, gear and carrier bearing are all the same between a WC-WD-WD45 and D-17. The only real difference is the governor spring. A D-17 runs 2,000 RPM wide open throttle. So, if a D-17 governor can take that, it shouldn't make any difference in a WD45 because the parts are all the same.

Buying a used governor is a gamble. In addition to the gears running smooth, make sure the pivot holes in the weights aren't worn oversize. If the weights are loose on the pins at all they can start to vibrate and crack. New weights and pins can still be had from AGCO.
