WD snap coupler release lever chain

hi all, i'm hoping someone can help me out. the release chain for my snap coupler fell off, and i am not at all sure how it was routed. everything i've tried strikes me as wrong. can anyone post a picture or two showing the routing for the chain?

thanks :)

Can"t do the pic, but it goes down from the lever, into the front-most part of the snap coupler bell, forward of the rivet. Then it is attached to the hook.

If you gotta tear the bottom apart to replace it, be sure to get a new spring for in the snap coupler bell and put it in there. Had I known there was a spring in there, I would not have had a plow come unhooked and land on top of me over 30 years ago. still suffer from major back pain.

i would consider the proper operation of the snap couple hitch hook and release system.
the most critical item on your tractor,
if it fails you could be seriously hurt.

I would get a proper manual and be sure it is repaired correctly.

have heard of some people being hurt by this system coming apart. (will admit all I have heard was second hand)
I had a D14 with this type hitch, I checked the hook hitch nearly every time I fueled the tractor, had been told by AC mechanics of the danger if it came apart.

but also know a few people that have been hurt by 3pt hitch systems coming apart and causing serious accidents

safety first always,
especially if you have youngsters operating the tractor and I did back in the day.

wellmax, i have owned a copy of the agco service manual (part number 79003405) since shortly after acquiring the tractor. it is of zero help for this issue. it has one page about the snap coupler. there's less than a half page of text, and pictures of the drawbar and snap coupler - with no tractor. my issue here is i cannot figure out the routing of the chain in between the release lever and the coupler itself. this manual is of no help in showing that chain routing.

do i have the wrong manual?

tom, i agree. i just hope my dealer has that spring. the pic in the manual tells me it's not something my local hardware store will have, and i can't find it on this site.

Is this the spring that your looking for? If so DJS Tractor Parts in Michigan has them for about $20.00.

yep, that's the one :)

but it won't help me until i figure out how to route that chain :(

HF,
I found a few picture of snap couple hitch release chain routing
but they may not be much help,
you are right, for something so important on old AC tractors, there is not much information.

yep, i think this will do the trick. i was fairly sure it had to be one of the handful of routeings i had tried, since there just weren't that many possibilities. it was just everything i tried seemed like it couldn't be right - like this one

i was puzzled when i first looked at the top pic, but i couldn't put my finger on why. i printed it out and walked out to the pole barn with it, and then i figured it out. did i get the optional frame with my WD :?:

thanks again, folks :)

... and now i notice the third pic shows a different route - that i no doubt tried too.

pardon me while i curse that chain for coming off to begin with :x

IF the correct Release latches are used, there is no chance of anything happening except driving away from the plow..

The original (Early) WD lift-links with the SET-SCREW should NOT ever be used..NO matter what..

The newer LATCHES reliably release immediately...
