Hi. We have a 1969 AC 615, that I have just tried to start after sitting all winter. Turned the key, but just a click, so I figure it needs a jump. I connect jumper cables to truck (correctly), and try to start the tractor. It did not seem to be getting enough power still, as it was turning very slowly, not fast enough to start it. I turned the key off, but the engine kept turning...I pulled the key but it kept going. At his point I noticed the cables are smoking at the truck terminal, so I disconnect them, and the engine stops trying to start. I then disconnected the battery to have it tested. Battery is fine.
When I reconnect it, it is sparking like it is trying to draw power even though the key is out. I leave the second terminal touching for a second, and the engine starts turning again. So, I am thinking I inadvertently hot wired it, possibly by melting 2 wires together, or something like that. Basically any time it has power, the engine starts turning. Any ideas on what might have caused this, or what I should try next? Thanks.
