Hi guys

I have a buddy with a ac 7030, he said he noticed some slippage when disking on hi and low side. He had changed hydraulic filter at engine, spin on one. Tonight we changed the two cartridge type ones back at rear axle housing, he thought that may be have helped but will have to check it tomorrow.

How much hydraulic oil does it hold and what type is required? Will Jd hy-guard work?

Hy-Gard is fine. Transmission oil is under the seat and hydraulic oil is in the rear end using the sight glasses. How much does it hold?? Well, the rear end holds 18 gallons or so. Transmission holds 7+ when drained. Your slipping problem is probably the torque limiter on the flywheel. It ain't fixed.

Ok but hy guard can be used in transmission and
rear end?

Is the torque limiter like a clutch or torque
converter? How do you test it?

Same oil in BOTH compartments. To test torque limiter, put tractor in 3rd gear high range and while rolling along at full throttle, stand on the brakes really hard and hold them. If the tractor stops moving AND your power steering is dead, that is the T.L. slipping. You can still use the tractor but just be aware of it not being able to maybe pull at 100%. You can't let it slip and slip and slip.........

Ok will have him check that, he had a gauge
plugged into a port on the valve on top of
bellhousing and that test passed, 200 psi@ 2300
rpm

Torque limiter is basically a slip-clutch. Follow instructions given by Dr. Allis. I think he knows what he's talking about.

He tried the third gear test and it quit moving but
didn't lose power steering, he tested the high/ low
pressures and there wasn't much differential, per
specs of the book. Where is best place to buy a
torque limiter?

Also, if it is the torque limiter slipping, with the AM radio turned on it will squall loud when the torque limiter slips. 1 more thing, if it still has the original scavenger pump in the transmission, that may have went bad and not pumping the tranny oil back to the gerotor transmission pump again. A lot of these tractors had this issue early in life, there was an update to fix the issue. This tractor may have missed the update as it was a repair at owner expense as I recall.

Hold on here !! If the power steering doesn't quit while the rear wheels are stalled out, IT IS NOT THE TORQUE LIMITER !!!!! Pay attention to the clutch regulating pressure as it too should stay at 200 psi if the power steering stays working. This sounds like an internal clutch problem if what you say is accurate.
