WD or WD45?

I have recently come into the ownership of my grandfather's wd or wd 45, I can't find the serial number in any corners of the internet. The serial number is wd34126. Can anyone help me figure out the year and weather it's a wd or wd45? Thanks!

The serial number can be found on this site. Go to left side of this page and go down to Research & Info and go down to serial numbers.

From that serial number its a late 1949 WD.

That serial number makes it a late 1949 WD.

First serial of 1949 was 9250
First serial of 1950 was 35445

Now I see what I did wrong. What an idiot. But thank you so much! Now onto the long road of restoration!

Same year as mine and me. Restoring is not that different than other tractors. You will want the set of manuals if you don't have them, all three will make it easier. And
one thing specific to early WDs, they had only one seal between the hydraulic system and transmission. Later ones had two, one facing each way. There is a kit to install
the two seal system in early WDs if the hydraulic oil leaks into the transmission. If you split the tractor might as well install the kit as opposed to just the one seal.
I just assumed the kit is still available, I bought one maybe 8 years ago. The manual or parts book explains it.

My grandfather took good care of this tractor until he died 14 years ago, my uncle then had the tractor and neglected it really bad, so for my mother's peace of mind I bought it from him. I want to 'restore' it in the aspect of getting it running and being a reliable tractor again, for being a 1949 the original paint is still really good. Also, before I proceed, I'm 19 and this will be my first big project. Another question I have is did these tractors come with a brush/grill guard from the factory? My mother said it has been thereally for as long as she can remember. Also it has rather large steel tubing in the shape of a V. I know it's for some sort of attachment but I don't know what kind? Like I said befoe, I'm VERY new to oldschool tractors[/b]

The others have pretty much told you what it is. But here are a couple thing that if you knew about would have told you what it was also. The WD has a bolt on plate on the right side of the engine and a curved shiftier and the WD45 does not have that plate and the shiftier is curved. Those 2 things tel la person from the get go which one it is or if it is a mutt

If the steel tubing V is on each side, bolts onto the frame in front and the V points forward, and has a couple of places for a clevis at the top and bottom at the rear,
it is for a loader.

Does anybody know anything about a brush guard or grill guard for them? I'm assuming it has to be custom right?

Most likely something a farmer manufactured along the way. To my knowledge there was never a factory grill guard of any kind.

I just bought a set for my 1952 WD off of this site. Good price. Already had an owner/operators manual.

(the AC 160 rotary mower manual was an ebay find)

Sounds like you have loader sub-frames on this tractor? There was a grill guard, manufactured out of large pipe, much like the loader frame, available.

I will try to snag some pictures of her today to show you what guard in on it. And like other people have said I'm sure it's for the loader attachment.

Remembner, that there is that possibility the engine has been re-built with WD-45 crank and pistons..making it same as a WD-45 in power..

The most I have ever seen on the front was a piece of metal Screen Door Screen, to catch chaff, etc and keep the radiator core from packing, Plugging Solid...!

That is what I do and all ya need to do to mostly clean it off is the stop the engine, and half will be Bugs that fall or fly away..!!
