have a w d. right side of axle, where drop axle drops. whew ?. there are about 8 bolts holding the drop axle housing. 4 of lower bolts are broken off or they are loose. 2 bolts are broken off deep within. will 2 bolts (on the bottom) hold this assembly? top bolts are all in place.

thank you for your information. i am embarrassed. let me rephrase my question, in light of new information. ahem. i am trying to pull the final
drive, so i can have broken bolts removed from the lower portion. the final drive does not wish to come out. looks like it should pull straight out.
i see a snap ring, but, that appears to hold a bearing onto the shaft. sigh

Complete axle/final drive OFF OF THE TRACTOR. This means pull out the brake shoes first. Remove the brake drum from the axle shaft. Remove the axle tube. Fix your broken off bolts. Reassemble.

getting it apart, seems to be the big job. axle will not pull out and housing cannot be removed, until brake drum is removed.

Unscrew the brake rod going to the brake pedal. Remove the retaining clip and large pin at the dead bottom of the axle housing. This pin might be a miserable SOB to get out and sometimes requires a torch to cut it off in small piece from underneath. PIN HAS TO BE REMOVED TO BE ABLE TO PULL BRAKE SHOES UP AND OUT OF THE HOUSING. You can do nothing else until that pin is pulled out.
