question for Dick L

thanks to Dick L for interesting reply, I am not familiar at all with tractor pulling and I was trying to compare what the B was pulling with something it would be doing on the farm, also those 2 paper plates on front of tractor would surely restrict air flow

While what a tractor will pull at a tractor pull is interesting it probably shouldn't be related to what it can pull hour after hour working in the field. Loading the engine to that level for an extended time might overload/overheat it. As far as the paper plates, no matter for tractor pulling, you could cover over the radiator completely as it wouldn't have time to over heat, the pull only lasts for seconds, less than a minute, no time to overheat. Your B is a tough little tractor and can be worked hard if it is in good condition. I have not seen a two plow B though. Not saying they won't pull one in easy conditions but normally I don't think you would consider it to be two plow power. That was for the WCs, WDs etc. Maybe the later D-14s and 15s.

Be careful with that no time to overheat statement. I've seen more than one 2 banger Deere puke coolant all over a DuPont restoration popping down the track. Those might have been the thermos siphon cooled ones, but I have seen them boil over.

As stated the tractor does not run long enough in a pull to over heat. I don't run thermostats and there can still a lot of air come in under the paper plates. Some people think they want to warm up their tractor before a pull. I only wanted my tractors warm enough that they wouldn't sputter. On a warm summer day I didn't start my tractor until I was ready to pull out on the track if I could. Some places they wanted all the tractors in line at the edge of the track and I would let it run so I could keep moving ahead. On the light classes I removed the battery to make weight.
More pulling pictures at the link. I didn't always have someone taking pictures at the pulls. Women sometimes have a problem spending two to three days every weekend at a tractor pull.
