To get more flexibility, I think a little Massey Harris (Pony maybe) used the same engine. Perhaps some others too.
 
Massey engine won't work, starter mount is completely different, however internals can be used. A G MUST have a G block.
 
I think I know where there's a couple of "G"'s that about all they're good for is parting out. I've not visited the tractors for several years now and don't know if the widow still has them, but it would be worth a short drive if you're in the central Iowa area.
 
Do you have parts from the old G motor? The head is different from a Pony. I agree, you
have to use a G motor. The holes under the hitch are also different.
