C trans oil

I got dads old c out and put the plow on it today. Replaced the shift boot so I'm sure given the condition of the old one its got water in the transmission. What weight of oil should the trans/rear end take? I'm thinking 10w because of the hydraulics but not sure. Also do the final drives take 80w90? Thanks.

80/90 gear oil is OK for the final drives. If they haven't ever been done they can be nasty.

It's not particular about what is used in the trans as long as it meets the viscosity requirements which is 20W. Motor oil, various trans/hydraulic fluids etc all work just fine. If you have milky oil plan on 2-3 changes before you are rid of it and use whatever the cheapest thing you can find for flushing and it helps to use the tractor for a while between drainings.

Should have mentioned that it will run quieter with thicker oil but if you have hydraulics you need the thinner tractor lube or 20 weight engine oil.
