190 XT Hydraulic Pump

Have an early XT190 gas with hydraulic issues. Pump seems to be getting air, power steering and hydraulics are "jerky." Front seal in pump is apparently leaking hydraulic fluid in the crankcase as the engine is "making" oil. Is there a rebuild kit for these pumps? Also, where is the inlet screen located? It could be plugged with anything as oil at the tractor is.

First, where are you checking the hydraulic oil level???? It is the screw-in dipstick under the seat to the LEFT. You would need three "seal-kits" to go thru the triple pump assembly and any bearings if needed. Going thru one of those triple pumps ain't for a novice mechanic, as there are SEVEN sections and they all have to be assembled correctly or you'll have more problems than you do now. . Best advice is to replace the front shaft seal and O-ring and make sure it is FULL of hyd oil and see what you've got then. Also, the fuel pump could be pumping gasoline into the crankcase, so be careful on that diagnosis of hyd oil.

Thanks Dr. Allis, we are checking the fluid in the correct place. Will pull the pump and look into replacing the seal.
