I have an extremely original steel rear end WC which it's hood has never been cut out for the big muffler. There in which lies the problem. I will not cut the hood but they don't make the small muffler (or if they do been unable to find one). Does anyone know of a muffler that is similar to original or have a good used one they would be willing to part with? Thank you so much ahead of time.

How big is the hole? I think the non dual fuel WC used the same setup as the WD. Pretty rare to find a WC that would be original with a vertical manifold. Most would have been sold with the 45° one.

Can you extend the muffler with a short piece of exhaust tubing or electrical conduit? If you have a piece of tube that is just a little too big you can saw slots in it and weld them up until it will fit. Or if it is threaded npt just use a piece of pipe adapting the end to fit.

If it"s a steel rear end it"s a war model, so would be styled, and have the vertical manifold. I would suggest that he extend the bottom of the muffler enough to keep the body of the muffler above the hood. I remember the unnder hood muffler on our "47 WC, and later had the tall one. Don"t know if Dad had to cut the hood to make it fit.

It probably uses a 4" x 9" oval like my unstyled WF. I had to repair mine, and I'm thinking of reproducing them. Here is a picture before I painted my WF, but I had the new tires on it.

You are looking for the under hood muffler part # 210137. The tall muffler with its pleasant sound was introduced with the WD and many WC owners cut the hood's exhaust hole larger to retrofit the WD muffler into their WC.

The side discharge muffler is different than the under hood muffler. No one seems to be making the WC under hood. Best bet would be to use an extension to get above the hood, then use a WD muffler. Wouldn't look right, but without switching to the 45 degree manifold, or using a WD hood for the bigger hole, its about the only option.

I have a '39 WC with the 45 degree manifold, does this style use a muffler originally? I've see many with just the piece of pipe sticking out, is that the original configuration?

(quoted from post at 11:33:12 03/06/17) Parts book lists both. I have both, but run the straight pipe 99% of the time.

yes I saw the same thing but don't you think the muffler sticking out the side looks a little , what should I say ...like a head banger? lol
thanks for your reply!

It really isn't bad. It's low enough and tight enough to the engine that it's not really an issue. I just like hearing the old girl bark and the little bit I run it the straight pipe doesn't bother me. If I were going to run it hard all day, the muffler would go on.
