303 A/C Baler Needles

OK, I know it's a bit early, snow on the ground, more coming, gonna freeze again, but I'm getting nervous about this years hay crop.
Last spring I picked up an A/C 303 square baler. After some hugging and loving and a few parts, I got it going and it even tied!!! However, with 50 feet left of the last windrow, number of things happened.....mainly breaking both needles!! What happened was the little arm on the knotter that trips the tie cycle bent and got things drasticly out of time. Apparently, this was a problem, as the arm subbed to a better supported one. (no longer available.) I'm sure I can mend the little arm, but I would like to find at least one new (or used) needle. I've welded them before, but I'd like to have one to make sure I have the right curve and all. None are available from A/C-Agco any more. I'm hoping someone out there has one or two they'd like to part with. It's the needle with two (2) mounting bolts, NOT three. Can anyone help? Does anyone know of a used parts yard that might have a needle or two? Thank you, Jon K.

Wheat,

Check with the guys at "Austins Farm Salvage" in Butler, Mo. Little south of Kansas City. I was up there last fall and got a part for my 303 and some tractor parts. He had a couple of the balers. Very nice guy to do business with. I don't have his number handy; but, you can google and get it.

I picked up needles for my 47 wire tie baler from them also - they were very reasonable. I could have spent the ret of my life looking for those needles and never found them.

If you only need one I would still buy two.

Thanks to all who replied.
I did contact Austin's, but they had no needles for twine balers..
So I guess I'll keep looking. If anyone has anymore ideas,
please let me know.

should your baler have safety device when the needles go into bale chamber there is also a plate at bottom that also goes into chamber and if ram hits it and breaks shear bolt preventing damage to needles

I know. Apparently something didn't work like it was supposed to.
One of the many things I have to check out when I get there.
Thanks.

We have a guy in the neighborhood who is real good at welding cast maybe that might be an option. At least you could put them in tell you make sure all the stops work better than sacrificing a good set

Sounds like a problem I encountered.....broken spring on the safety dog. I have a 303 for parts, may have two good needles if you don't find any. Probably safer to ship two so you can tie them together opposite each other so OOPS doesn't break them...

My Dads 302 baler has the plunger stop on side of the bale chamber. Previous owner had cut both needles off and replaced them . When we purchased the baler first thing we noticed was no spring to pull the plunger dog into the bale chamber . Installed a stout spring and you can hear it slap the side over the tractor and baler noise . Good luck

Eldon.... Sorry so long to get back to you...
You said you may have a couple of 303 A/C baler needles.
I need the Two hole mounting ones.
What kind of price are you looking at?
Thanks

(quoted from post at 23:02:18 02/21/17) JonK, Send a pic of the part that bent. May have one as I parted out a 303 last summer.

Looking through past comments, might you still have some 303 baler parts? Need a spindle. You know, baler laying in a field full of windrows. Thanks.
