Would like to have variable speed and 3 point for the spark and a Deg. wheel on it too. I seen one at the Allis Chalmers show in Hutch. Or if anyone knows were I could find some plans

We had the old time Allen variable speed test stand at the IH dealership. It had a special reduction attachment to test the magnetos with that had a degree wheel on it. Also, had the attachment you hooked up the high tension wires to the distributor cap on magneto (hey, catch that , a distributor on a magneto). That attachment had the variable gap knob to test for spark strength. I believe I was told they quit making that model test bench in 1939 which is the year that my boss bought the store. When everything on the test stand worked you could vary the load on a generator, vary the resistance to the field circuit. Also, clamp the voltage regulator to an attachment and wire it to generator and adjust.

Had the exact same stand at the Deere dealer and it is still there, but , most of it does not work anymore. They have a new one for testing alternators and generators that is crap as far as I am concerned. No variable speed, just hit the switch and it goes full speed.

I believe the CASEIH dealer threw the whole works out after I left as it quit running and not one knew how to operate it and they didn't want you repairing alternators or generators anyway. It was a great piece of test equipment in it's day.

Allen made that stuff at least into the 50's.

I had one my late uncles bought at a closing DEERE dealership in the late 60's that I lost in a shop fire in 1983. Still miss having it.
