82S sickle mower

All,

Did they make 9ft 82S sickle mowers? I only ever see 7ft mowers in that make. Granted they isn't a lot of them. Also, Why didn't the side mount sickle mowers get more popular. To me it seems easier to look strait ahead instead of turning around.

Adam I been around 2 side mount mowers in my life, 1 jd and 1 AC both were a real finger pinching pain to put on.

According to the parts manual they made only 6' and 7' bars for the 82S.
The 82S is a great mower and far and away better than an 80S when it comes to installing and removing.
Back in the 60s, a neighbor farmer had a D-17 with an 82S.
The first side mount mower I ever saw that would cut a square corner without stopping. He would simply drop to low range, hit the right brake and spin the steering wheel.
My 82S is mounted on my WD-45 and without power steering, them square corners just ain't gonna happen! LOL

I'm pretty sure they did I have several 82S mowers but they're all 7ft and the 82S is a nice mower to mow with, although they are heavy and you need some extra weight on the left rear wheel.
Could even tell the difference with one on my D19.I just hang it off the front end loader with chains and use an impact and it only takes a few minutes to take on and off.

I had a 82S on my WD45, and I hung several suitcase weights off the left frame rail. I don't remember our old WD45 with loader steering that hard!

I found a nice D15II to put the 82S on. Power Steering! Then I put 28" tires on the D15, and three left rear WD style wheel weights.

WD45 is now married to a 6' bush hog.

Thanks for the input. I live in ND and would love to own a 82S for my WD45. Hopefully I will be able to find one for sale. Willing to travel to SD and MN.--adam

I posted a add on craigslist about the 8th of Feb wanting to get an 82S mower to purchase. Under Minneapolis Mn. Wonder if I will get any bites---adam

Hard to say depends on how popular they were in your area, about the time they were built farmers in the larger farming areas were starting to use other things to cut hay.In my area there were a lot AC mowers,I've rounded up about 50 over the years of the different Twin Wheel Drive mowers some parts mowers some ready to mow didn't pay much for them.Probably saved a bunch from the junkers.I used them for years but have now switched to new Holland 456 trailer mowers because of parts situation. The offset wheel design on the AC 82T and the NH 456 mowers makes for excellent cornering when mowing.

If you don't mind a Sunday drive south a few hours, I know of an 82 S with WD mounts for sale by Cedar Rapids, IA.
