Buying an AC B or C w/o mower a prob?

I see Model B and C tractors regularly sold w/o implements. I want to primarily mow with the tractor. I have not considered these tractors b/c worried about the difficulty and cost of locating all the needed brackets and pulleys to run a Woods belly mower. Your thoughts? Thanks.

likely best to purchase one with a mower already on it,Woods no longer makes or sells complete belly mowers however they will continue to make and sell replacement parts.

I saw a B listed yesterday on the Lake of the Ozarks Craig's list for $750 but it did not run but that is also all I know about it. It did have a belly mower and also a front push blade

When buying a used Woods mower to use under an Allis B make sure your buying one that actually came from a B. If buying a used Woods mower for under an Allis C it can come from under a C or CA. It will be a nightmare finding the correct mounting if it was under any other make of tractor or cost a lot in new replacement parts.

Old, Thanks for the lead, but it is too far and bad timing. I'm in PA. I need to make room - been using a 1970 Wheel Horse Charger 12, Murray LT, 2 David Bradley (DB) tractors for dirt plowing/cultivating, and a 1952 Power Wagon for snow plowing. I hope to sell off everything except the Dodge this Spring to make room for an AC to do all these tasks - plus move vehicles being restored in and out of shop, hauling 1 ton trailers with firewood/misc. around the property, and being in a couple annual parades pulling floats. Less stuff should make the wife happy.

Ya i did not know where you where but knew I could at least say something who knows maybe some one in this area will see this post and jump on the one I saw. If I had the $$ and needed another tractor I would probably buy it if for no other reason but the dozier blade set up it has. But I have too many tractors as it is LOL

Have you ever actually mowed with one? If you have, and know that's what you want, well and good.

I had a Super A IH for a while with a belly mower and HATED it, due to lack of maneuverability around buildings and other obstacles in the yard, and the fact the tractor didn't have live PTO, or power steering at least it had hydraulics, which some of the choices you have proposed probably wouldn't, unless they've been added by a PO.

I now using a 1435 front-mount DEERE that I bought reasonably, used, which will mow circles around any of those old tractors with a belly mower.

If fast mowing time and ease of operation matter to you, I would at least consider a commercial-grade mower of that type, lots of brands out there.

Where are you in PA? I have a C w/6' Woods belly mower for sale in central NY. I have talked with a fellow about it, but he's a long ways away. Not sure about his intentions at this point.

I have had two B's with a 5' mower, and this C with a 6' mower. Every time I put them together. Mounting parts were readily available from Woods, but pricey.

E-mail me if you want to.

I have a B with the L 306 Wood's mower it works great on straight runs . it can be difficult if you have to stop as it doesn't have an independent pto . so places you don't have to stop and reverse are great stopping reversing not so great .

I have a B with a Woods L59 belly mower and has been parked in the shed for at least the last 20 years. It's like mowing with a dinosaur particularly the non-live PTO, the hand operated brakes and no power steering. There are better and safer options oit there. Operate one first before you commit.

When you stop, pop it out of gear, let the mower run a bit, place it in the gear you need and go back or go on. The mower blades stop quick on your mower so it does not take a lot of time.

I have power poles to mow around. I like the narrow front on the C so I run the front of the tractor close to the pole with the mower stopped against the pole. I let the mower run and instant in neutral then back up and swipe by the pole with the edge of the mower. Then do the same on the return swath.

I love using the mower under my B and C which might give me a different attitude than most.
