Putting together a little pulling motor with a we block and 45 crank when installing bearings will I still be using shims , can't recal if 45 used shims , also I'm gonna do a offset grind with 45 diesel rods did the diesel rods use shims ? Thanks

WD45's used shims on the mains so you'd still need then unless you line bore the block. I have no idea about the diesel rods.

WC-WD used shims on mains and rods.
WD45 - D17 used shim on mains only
either the 170 or 175 stopped using shims at all, but I can't remember if it was a 170 or 175

From the beginning (1957)to the end (1975?)of the G-226 engine (all D-17's, One-Seventy's and 175's) there were NO shims on anything. WC's and WD's had shims on mains and connecting rods. WD-45's were shimmed on the mains only.
