Just brought home an AC 7040 powershift. Have a question about the battery setup. Can a guy get by with two good batteries on the top tray? Bottom two batteries are there for looks as they are bad, and prior owner disconnected them. Has the large Delco starter too, if it ever needs replaced is there a gear reduction to replace it? Thanks for any input..

I have nothing here with more than two batteries. The biggest is a Cummins L10 truck engine. Of course the only hydraulics to crank is the power steering pump! Two Case/Cummins 8.3L start readily with two batteries.

I live in east Texas and have a 7040 I bought from original owner. Came from factory with a battery tray that only holds 2 batteries. I don't run it much in winter but most of the time in summer start it with 1 good high amp battery.

I only have 2 batteries on my 7060 and have never had any problems. Group 31 with a good CCA. Good battery cables make a world of difference too.

Two 1000 CCA batteries with two large positive cables going to the starter. When those tractors were new, about the best battery there was at that time was 500 CCA.
