I have an Allis D17 Series 1.
It has power steering. The pump is in front of the distributor, (toward front of tractor). I can not find any place to check or fill the power steering fluid. It seems that the power steering don't work as well as it used to, so I'm hoping it just needs fluid. (I have never checked the fluid since I bought the tractor a year ago).
* Where the heck is the filler cap? (this has me puzzled)...
* How do I check the fluid level to know it's correct?
What type of fluid do they use, is is standard automotive Power Steering fluid, or something else?
* If it's not in need of fluid, what else should I look for?

One other question: The starter quit, and I took it to a motor rebuilder. I just went there yesterday and he said the starter is so bad, that it would cost more to rebuild than to replace it. He said he could get me a new one for around $370. I was rather shocked at that price, when not long ago I bought a new starter for a Farmall M, for $120. It seems that all Allis parts cost more, but that price is ridiculous. Just wondering if any of you know some place that has a good price on USED or REBUILT starters for the D17?
(I already looked at Ebay and Amazon), not much on there. And dont bother suggesting ASAP. I used to buy from them, but their prices have gotten outrageous in the last year or so). [ASAP wanted $260 for a rebuilt Farmall M starter, and I bought a brand new one for $120 on Ebay].
Thanks for all help!
