WD aircleaner

My WD has 2 pipes coming off the air cleaner where the carb hose goes on. One pipe is up higher and comes out by the exhaust manifold. It had an oil fill cap on it. All of our other WD's only have 1 outlet pipe. Do I have an aircleaner for another application ? It looks identical to the other tractors except for the extra pipe. I was going to cut the pipe off and braze a plug on it but I didn't want to ruin a " rare " special attachment. (if it is )
Thanks,

It would be nice if you could post a photo.Maybe it was put there to use start fluid in cold weather ??????

sorry it is on it's side .As you can tell , it looks factory. No heavy brazing or welding

Old the one on the right in photo would go to carb. but the one on the left looks like its over the top of manifold. After seeing photo I wonder if it was part of something that pulled warm air off manifold in winter????

Well hard to tell what is what in his picture but yes could have been a warm air suction sort of thing which would sure help in cold weather and stop carb icing

If that pulled warm air off the manifold wouldn't it be bypassing the air cleaner? Warm air would be a good idea in cooler weather but wouldn't it be connected in at the tip of the air cleaner where the main inlet is? This way all air would go through the cleaner. You have an interesting thing there, I hope someone will know what it was for.

No it wouldn't have to bypass air cleaner. I have a set up on my Farmall B that pulls warm air from around muffler.

The 2 outlets are connected together so if left open the air would not go through the cleaner . The top port does not feed the aircleaner like the air stack . I think I will put another air cleaner on it and put this one on a shelf just in case it is for some special application. Thanks for the responses !

Good idea. No need to risk your engine for the sake of that air cleaner. I think someone just did a very nice job of altering it. I can't figure out why.

My guess is that your breather was modified to work on an unstyled WC since they used a top mounted outlet with an "S" pipe to connect to the carb. So you may have a true universal air breather for all WC's and WD's. Either that or someone put in a slightly more direct or easier to access ether inlet.

You could be right about it being a modified wd air clear . Here is a photo of a unstyled wc air cleaner.
