WD-45 Voltage Regulator placement

I have a WD-45 with a Gleaner E engine. When I transplanted the combine engine the 12 volt Generator/Regulator worked fine so I re-used it. The only thing is the large Rectangle Voltage Regulator ended up on the side rail and does not look right. The Alternator people are quick to point it out.

When the original manual was printed "Cutout" was mounted on the generator which is old technology. My dad had both saddle mounted square regulators mounted on the generator or the Rectangle ones mounted wherever with brackets on his WD's over the years. Just wondering what the Original Tractor restorers are doing? I get the convenience of using Alternators but like the looks of the original/Dependable Generator on older tractors (8- working Generators & 2- working Alternators.)

Get a big hose clamp or two, drill small holes in it, grind the bolt heads flat, slip the clamps around the generator and bolt the regulator to it. Make sure the reg is grounded good, may have to run a separate ground wire to everything.

On a styled WC with 12V gennie, I hid the voltage regulator in the compartment under the gas tank that the lights attach to. It is close to the the ammeter, etc. so was easy to wire. You could even put a dummy cutout on the generator if you wanted. kip

Back in the 60's when my '45 was converted someone mounted the regulator (same as a late 50's GM truck) on the front of the battery box. Nice and out of the way, I left it there (and even drilled holes in a new box for it)
