D17 front hubs

I have a early d17 (series 1) with a wide front and I'm wanting to put wider tires on it. The rims are 5 lugs and 4 1/4" wide (6:00 X 16 tires)the
widest 5 lug rims I have found are 5 1/2" but was wondering if I can put 6 lug hubs on it because there are a lot more options on width of rims.
Just wondering if anyone has done this or what other options there are? I know I could put 7:50x 16 tires on the 5 1/2" rims but kind of like the
11L15. Any pictures would be helpful too.

It can be done if you can find the correct bearing to match the spindles and also the correct hub to fit how long the spindles are

I found rims from a car which let me put wider tires on...something like the old 7.50 or 8 tires. I believe the rims came from a 50s or 60s Buick. Make a cardboard cutout to match the existing hub and take it to a salvage yard to find a match. The length of the spindle limits how wide of a tire you can put on without clearance issues. You could also cut out the wheel center and relocate it to create more offset.

When I want to do this type of thing I just pop the hub off and take it with me and that way I also grease the bearings while I have the hub off. Give a guy a good reason to grease the bearing also

If you're not so concerned about looks with automotive rims you can enlarge the center hole on GM full size 5 stud rims 1970 and up and as stated 50's and 60's Buick rims as well. You would nicely fit 11L x 15" tires on there. I have done it for a WD with same hub/5 stud as the early D17. I trust you have power steering or it will take more "armstrong" to steer a wider tire. I did a fair amount of research on this without much for options...however some Dodge fan may know if long ago they had a 16" rim that was the same 5 stud? 5 on 5.5" x 16" (by whatever width) in the world of rims. If you find other options please let us know.

Have you looked at the 5 hole $x$ Chev rims?? They would have the larger center hole in them and may fit

Have you checked with M.E.Miller Tire for wider rims. Rims would be cheap and less time messing around.

I am hoping to find a implement wheel because I might add wheel weights later but I suppose I could drill any wheel to fit weight. I do have power steering so that's not a problem. I have done a fair amount of research also but not finding a lot of options either just hoping someone had done this before..

The older wheels like you are talking about are starting to get hard to find, I think the demo cars are using them up and the high price of scrap a few years ago, but all good ideas.

Hey Old how's things down by the lake? I guess your right about taking the hub with you they probably need repacked anyway!

Thanks for the ideas guys, I guess I'll do some calling around to see what is available. I'll try to post back with what I come up with.

Yep I my self cannot remember when the last tiem was that I greased a tractor hub unless is has a zerk for doing so. Many pieces of equipment are the same way and get used year after year but the hubs don't get greased unless some thing odd happens of they have a zerk

I have seen some places have 6 lug hubs that say "early d17" I am assuming these will fit? And your saying the wheel bearings I have will work with them? Although I will probably use new ones.
