Spark Plug Wires

Where is the best place to find good plug wires for an A/C? Looking for good quality, custom fit wires; not the cheap silicone make it yourself ones.

You can get a set from NAPA that is "universal" in that you cut to length and install the ends. If you say they are for an old tractor and ask for solid core wires you will end up with a custom set that will run good, look good, and last. The last set I bought was a couple of years ago and I think they were about $30, but I don't remember for sure.

You can get a set from NAPA that will fit a Allis Chalmers WD45 that are made up and straight boots. The part number is BK S65034.The set for the 45 fit nice and no problems so far.

I have NEVER found any that are made to fit. DO NOT use the plug wires made for cars and truck since they are carbon core and tend to go bad fast on a tractor. BUY TRUE wire plug wires and they will last a decade or more

Yes I pull it along with an IH 450 and I pull them and go to about 6 tractor shows. Three of the last four pulls we had this season were wash outs. At the very last pull the 45 took second in farm stock 4,500- 5,000 and 5,000-5,500 lb. classes. Here's two pictures of the old girl.

The NAPA set I got go under a BK number and are made by Sparex and are custom built for the Allis Chalmers WD 45.

Well that might work if you have a NAPA that you can go to but the nearest NAPA to me is 38 miles one way so way to far to go to and be worth it

Look up Sparex spark plug wires. They go under a BK number for NAPA but NAPA is not the only place that you can by Sparex plug . Sparex makes custom and universal for cars, trucks and farm tractors. The custom sets are made for what ever they are going to be used on.

Thank you for the input. I bought a set of "custom" more like quality pre-made wires like these for my Ford 2N a few years ago and they seem to be pretty good quality, have never had any problems with them like the universal make it yourself kits. I'm very new to the world of orange and have no idea where to find good parts besides Steiner or Abilene Machine and of course this website which has a few WC parts.

You have to list your tractor year, make, and model first with NAPA and then put in a search for spark plug wires and you should come up with tree sets of wires. One custom made and two universal sets that you have to put ends on. The custom set is a Balkamp product line and comes up BK- S.65034. These fit: ( WD,WD45 w/ Distributor), D10, D12, D14, D15,D17.They are Sparex INC. of Aurora,Ohio and made in USA.

I have been getting a set from napa for a jeep,,,they a bit long but they have lasted several years and i have had no problems with them at all. they are just the regular silicone automotive wires.

Go to Summitracing.com or Jegs.com and get a 4 cyl set of Taylor Spiro-Pro wires. You cut them to length and put the distributor ends on them. Last set you will ever buy.

Are those wires solid copper wire or carbon core wires. On these old tractors solid copper work and hold up better than carbon core.

Those are not "Copper", but the Spiral wound around the core makes a definite "Hard-Wired" connection from mag ( or Dist) to Plug and
they carry a Very hot spark..

They are actually a "Noise Suppression Wire, with a Carbon Core..
Good wires...

If you do enough research the copper wires or spiral wound stainless steel wire are better for high performance systems with points. The carbon core work better with electronic systems.
