Thoughts on a A/C- B

I've been thinking about a bigger mower for the yard, have a older 210 jd with a 38" deck right now, through browsing of craigslist I've found a allis "B" with a underbelly deck (doesn't say but I'm guessing about 5') year of tractor isn't letting stead but it runs and I'm thinking for $1600 it might make a good mower, and certainly not nearly as pricey as another "garden tractor" with a deck or a zero-turn. There's another similar tractor close to me that's been parked a couple of years, might check into it even. All I would problem use it for would be mowing. Any thoughts on this model and things to be aware of? I know very little about a/c's. But this would be much better on fuel than the jd - A and finding a underbelly woods for a N-ford may be difficult, plus the N gets used for other things and I don't want the hassle of on/off with a deck. I'm sure it's not live Pto, but that shouldn't be a issue with just a mower.

I had a couple of B's with Woods 5' belly mowers. I say a couple because the first one I resurrected was a very early one with hand brakes, and no electric or hydraulic. I got tired of cranking, especially if I got stupid, tried to mow where I shouldn't, and stalled the tractor! The second one had electric and hyd. Both worked well for that job. They're both gone, as my aging body wanted something easier to get on and off from.

I think they would be great little mowing
tractors. I lowered mine by turning the
final drives forward like an industrial b. I
had plans of putting a belly mower on mine
but made a subframe for a front blade and
its kind of a pain to get on and off so I
will keep my mower for the time being.
Theres a yt poster that has one thats been
lowered with a belly mower. I dont have the
pics but if you google lowered allis B it
should pull up. He did an excellent job on
it.

My boy has a C. Pretty much the same tractor as a B. Gave $500 for it running and it had a cobbled up belly mower under it. Nice tractors, but only 3 speeds and no live PTO. For $1600 a guy could buy a CA with a mower and have much more machine. CA had 4 gears. We pulled the mower off because it was junk, but they would be a real nice mower tractor. I see a lot of decks for them for sale on Craigslist here as well. $200-$300 will buy a real nice deck.

That looks neat lowered, might consider doing that if I end up with one ( as long as mower will still fit/work)

I have this one under a B that I have had for over 15 years and have been using another one under a C for the last six years. I not only use it to mow four acres of yard but mow the lanes between horse lots and mulch down horse manure in my hay fields. I do not raise the mower deck in the hay fields.

That is a deal. That tractor and mower will be around years after the new ones are junk.
It will be much easier on your back than the lawn tractors and zero turns. I know. I mow with a 52 8N and a King Kutter finish mower. Can't ride the little mowers with my back.

You might be ahead to put a 3 pt mower on the N Ford. The little Allis's are not horribly user friendly to get on and off. That said, I do love my boys C and would buy another in a heartbeat if I had the $$$.

I have a B with a Woods belly mower. What a dinosaur! I parked it years ago when I got a Dixie Chopper. I have back issues and never had a problem.

I can second the getting on and off not being the easiest. The previous owner added a step on the C with a Woods L-309 6' finish mower. Doesn't use as much fuel as a smaller riding tractor.

I went through two spinal fusions. The dock wants me to have a third one. All due to arthritis.
