I am working on a AC5040, someone put atf in the hydraulics instead of utf, will work for a few minutes but as soon as warmed up it stops working, I changed it out to UTF and still same issue, plus I hear the pump crying..bad pump? I am going to order a new pump but not sure that's the issue,,any ideas???

The power steering is underneath the engine hood. The "hydraulics" oil are in the transmission. Are you sure you're filling the correct compartment?? There is a dipstick near the gearshift to check oil level. The hydraulic system has a suction screen can down low under the engine that has a screen (dirty??) and an O-ring on the cover. Might be a bad seal on the cover allowing it to suck air instead of oil. Any other hose clamp or hose going to the pump would be suspect for sucking air.

ok, so the screen is clean, no plugged areas, the hydraulics work until it gets good and warmed up, then they chatter and have no power,,I am still thinking the pump is the issue, fluid gets warm and pump no longer pumps it. I can use the loader for about 20 minutes before this happens. Its full with UTHF any other ideas? If it was sucking air it wouldn't work for a while and then mess up...Thanks...Jim

I agree with your conclusion. The only other idea I can think of, and it's probably not worth it- is to drain the oil and put something heavier in.

Have you actually replaced that filter in the suction line? I have been fooled by them before in the belly of a Massey Ferguson. Looked clean, but was not clean even after going in the parts washer. Somewhat different, I know, but the fluid has to come through them.

The AGCO part number is 72093722. Helping a friend work on a 5050 now.

I can blow through it easily, nothing in it and nothing on the magnet, has to be the pump, not really anything else it cam be.

Have you got the A-C loader on it? with the hydraulic bucket?? They are on a pump all their own above the PTO shaft and their sump is in the loader tower.

That filter/strainer is only around $30. I think I would replace it before messing with the pump. Does the power steering continue to work, even when the tractor hydraulics act up? Or does the steering have it's own reservoir tank?

Don't need any more info. It isn't an A-C loader that utilized it's own hydraulic pump and tank, separate from the tractors system. If you operate the tractor for 20 minutes at full throttle, never once raising or lowering the loader, what does it act like when you begin to use it?? If it's fine, and then fades away, I think you're getting air into the oil.

After running the tractor for thirty minutes while not using the hydraulics at all the same thing happened. As soon as the oil warms up it no longer lifts the loader. I can only assume it must be the pump.
