Allis Chalmers B

I recently purchased my first AC and it's a 1952 B. I has a homemade 3-point on it that was made by one of the previous owners. Attached is a picture showing it but basically, they mounted some flat plates to the final drive housing and welded a piece of angle iron between with some pins to mount the lower arms. The pump had some problems and the aftermarket cylinder that was on it lifted but leaked really bad (bad enough to have a return line going back to the trans). My question is will one B cylinder be enough to lift my blade with this setup? I have thought about welding two more brackets onto the left side of the rocker shaft to accommodate two cylinders but I would rather skip this and go with one if possible. Thanks in advance for any input. I can take some better pics if needed.

I use just one cylinder on my setup and it works just ok, but Ive always wanted to add a second cylinder for a little more lift. My b works pretty good with a 6 foot blade but I found I needed chains, fluid and a front weight in the snow.

Thanks, that's what I was after. I've heard some people say no way and others say no problem so I'll just try the one right now and consider adding another later if needed. Have you ever seen a homemade 3-point like mine? I figured I would see a lot more variations out there once I started looking into the forums but I haven't yet. Hopefully it serves me well once it's all fixed.

Get 2 cyl's, of the proper pressure, and it will lift better. Not sure of my memory, but I think the pressure of this system is like 3000 lbs, GPM<4.
Try surpluscenter.com, and order 2 identical ones, that way one ain't lifting more than the other.

I'm sure you know it but I will point the gear lube leak in the right side drive gear housing out to you anyway.I would keep an eye on the lube level until you get it fixed.

Yeah, I'm aware of the leak. It's actually water that was leaking from the dust caps. The drain holes in the axle were completely plugged up and I've been draining water from everywhere. Surprisingly, now that I'm getting everything cleaned up, the only leak I can find is a small one on the side pto. Not even a drop of motor oil.

In some applications, factory had a two cyl setup, since the rear bar was split, to control two lift functions. Selector valve to choose which side lifted.

Thank you. I can't take any credit for it but I'm hoping it will work alright for me if I can ever find a cylinder and get it put back together! I was told these were easy to find for under 50 bucks but that doesn't seem to be the case right now.

Jason, here is a picture of m B with a 3 pt, same idea as yours, just a little different version. I have two B cylinders on it with the original single control valve. It lifts an old Central Tractor 5 ft. bushhog fine. I also have a 6 ft Myers snowblade on the front that works fine as a counter weight.

Wow, that is close to mine. So if I wanted to go to a two cylinder system, would I just have to cut out two more brackets and weld to the opposite side of the rock shaft? I think that would solve all of my problems and if it will lift that bush hog it will definitely lift my 5 ft. grader blade.

Let me know if you know anyone that happens to have a couple lift cylinders laying around for a decent price. I'm trying to get mine back up and running before any more winter storms hit here.

Jason, If you want to add the 2nd cylinder, just duplicate what ever linkage you have on the right hand side. The mount for the 2nd cylinder should already be on the tractor. The main thing I found is to make sure both linkages are in time with one another, so it will lift evenly. Sorry, but I do not know where any spare cylinders are. My suggeston would be to check local salvage yards for tractors.

I know this is an older thread but if you get this could you measure how long the lower lift arms are on your homemade 3 point there as well as the length of the top link and the links that go from the rock shaft to the lift arms please?

Want to make my own and this could take the trial and error out of it for me.

Thanks in advance
