So got a call from a friend this morning. He had his D-17 series 1 stuck. Went over to see if I could get it out. It was sitting along the side of the road on the way so I stopped and looked it over. Started it up and tried to get the hyds to work so I could raise the brush hog and loader. Neither one would move. Stop it and checked the hyd fluid level and it did not read on the dip stick.
Went to his house and told him what I found. He had a gal or so there so took it and went back to it and poured it in. Got both loader and hog off the ground. Tried to get it out and by using the brakes got it out.

Fluid level is still super low. So how many gals of fluid are needed to fill the hyds up on a 1958 D-17

Thanks

Sometimes the seal between the hydraulic department and the rear end fails and the fluid will go from one chamber to the other and the dipstick on the rear end will read overfull and the other low. It is not going to hurt anything. Mine has worked fine for years like this. Just keep an eye on it.

The guy who owns this D-17 had a stroke a few years ago and while I cannot be 100% sure I do not think he is able to remember things as well as he did in the past so I have to try to keep it simple for him.

I have explained the high/neutral/low shiftier to him more then once but he seems to no understand
