What Can You Tell Me About This AC

Sent some pics and a few questions to a fellow YT member, but wanted to post here too, hope that's OK.

Considering a WD with wide front end. It has some issues. Apparently there is a busted hydraulic hose that prevents it from running? What kind of hydraulic hose/scenario that would disable the tractor? The PTO looks like there is a yoke stuck on it - seller referred to it as an "adapter". "3 pt hitch" is a joke. Looks like there is a tunnel for a snap coupler, but all hardware is missing for the snap coupler arm ends.

Sheet metal looks straight, like the wide front end, shifter looks like it has a bend in it - I gather the shifter on later WD and WD 45's were more curved? What do you make of the shifter and the console below it. I'm assuming the button is a push to start button? What is the toggle switch to the left side? Tires look good.

Can you tell if the tractor has the later helical gear tranny or is a spur gear tranny. Anything else pop out at you?

Sooooo - here is a tractor that won't run due to a hydraulic hose. Can't pickup an implement, no drawbar to tow a trailer, etc., "PTO adapter" makes the PTO useless, not much of a useable tractor out of the gate. I'm thinking this might be a project - if I buy it at all.

Even if the price is "right", should I pass on this tractor, or is everything easy enough to refurb/repair?

Any advice/info is much appreciated.

Thanks!
Bill

the last part of 53 WD's had the curved shifter and from what I know used the same trans as the WD45's and has the later helical gear tranny
if I'm wrong someone more knowlagable will correct me
I have a 50 with the strait shifter and a 53 with curved as well as a 55 45 parts tractor
it appears that both the choke rod and starter rod are both there so don't know what the push button is I figure the two toggles would be 1 for lights and the other for the alt excite wire
the broken hose shouldn't stop it from running if the left handle is set to the lowest point of travel
again I'm not sure
but the hose is a pretty simple setup and easy to get made at any hose shop and very easy to remove and install
the snap coupler and draw bar should be easy to find
I'ld loose that 3 point and get the one YT sells or something similar that is more like a proper 3 point like the one on my 53 in the pic
the fenders look good but hard to see in the pics
the seat is wrong as well but it'll be more comfortable than the steel pan one
all of mine have rust worms but are not competly rotted yet yet
up here in Ont Canada I see WD's running from 800 - 1200 with fair tires all the time
my 53 with 12 volt conversion, 3 point, loader with a bent st8 blade and the drop bucket and snow blower was 700 running and delivered
only thing I did to it other than fluid changes is replace the toggle on off switch for a key switch due to local kids.
cleaned up the wiring due to bare connections all over and put the hood back on still needs a new steering wheel as this one is a mess
I run them both at least once a week just because I can and it keeps everything moving and lubed up
hate to see a piece of equipment just sit around n rot
the pics are of my 53 as it was the day it was droped off
let us know if you pic it up
good luck

To bad your pictures and not clearer. Does it have a bolt on plate on the carb side of the engine?? If it does not then it is a WD45 engine and the shiftier being bent also says WD45. As far as the missing draw bar those can be had many places. Shoot I think I still have one on my WD parts tractor.

Now as for the hose being bad and not being able to run the tractor well yes because you would burn up the hyd pump due to no oil in it.

Can't see the PTO well enough to tell what your talking about on it that would not let you use it

As for the switches one never know what some one has done to it. The console looks just like the one on my WD45 other then I have a universal key switch in mine

I am sure it is just a misprint, but the bolt on plate is on the right side of WD engiens, not the carb side. It is a plate that runs the whole length of the engine and is maybe 5-6" high, easy to spot.

Ya I sometimes get the wrong left when I should say right. Or the other way around. Been to long since I have really looked at the engine in my W Speed patrol

Its a WD by the looks of the small Zenith carb all WD45 tractors I have ever seen had the MS carb and it also has a hitch on it that will get you killed. The right draw bar goes in the
snap coupler bell under the tractor and attaches to the two brackets under the rear. The arms the 'hitch' is bolted to is for lifting snap coupler equipment. Also has the WD manifold and the later model gearshift so its probably a 52 or 53 model,of course it could have had 3 front end changes and 4 engine changes over the years.I've put together some tractors that would be real
head scratchers to figure out.

Looks like a late WD, curved shifter.
I agree with Old, do not run it with a bad hydraulic hose. You can burn up the pump with no oil in it. Plug the hose port and fill with fluid. The electrical control box should have stop switch an Amp meter and a combination light switch and generator charging control. The light switch has 3 positions, in is off with the genny charging at 3 amps, out at first notch is lights on and genny charging at approx 10 amps, out all the way and the genny charges at 10 amps. The starter is activated by a pull rod up near the steering wheel next to the choke pull rod. The drawbar arrangement is a killer!!! Don't pull anything from it. It is too high!!
LOL Bob

Look closer at the shifter. I don't think it is curved. I think it is straight and someone bent it. It does not have the same curve as my 45 diesel.

It also has a magneto. I don't think it is a late WD.

You didn't say how far your going to bring this tractor back. If your are planning on bring this tractor back to good shape your going to spend a lot of time and money so you couldn't give very much for it. If you watch craigslist you can find some nice WD's and WD 45's for less than what you will have in that one when your done unless you can get it for almost nothing.
