WD45 clutches

Sometimes when I start my WD-45 it will grind when I try to put it in gear with foot clutch. When I do get it in gear it will not move when I let foot clutch out but will move with hand clutch? If I play around enough working between the clutches it will then start working correctly? Any ideas? Thanks!

One clutch should not affect the other, Both need to be engaged for the tractor to move. If the hand clutch lever has a decent resistance and a bit of a snap when it engages it is probably OK. The engine clutch or foot clutch should have an inch or so of free play at the foot pedal. If the linkage is good and not loose someplace it should work unless it is worn out. If the linkage is working and the clutch is releasing, possibly the pilot bearing in the back of the crankshaft is dry and not allowing the clutch shaft (transmission input shaft) to stop turning when you release the clutch causing the gear grind you speak of. Can you see anything from the access cover under the clutch? As for not moving when you engage the foot clutch, is the throwout bearing sticking, not sliding back to engage the clutch? Try greasing it with the fitting on the bearing, access through the cover on the bottom of the clutch housing.

When you are driving and step on foot clutch, what happens? On mine it would not stop. If I hit the brakes and foot clutch at the same time it would. Agter pulling the engine I gound a pad came loose, they were only glued on.
