D-17 series 1 loader

I have a series 1 D-17 Allis and I have a loader on it. Pressure from my transport valve goes to a 4way spool that reduces the pressure for low pressure implements. It will run my loader but I do not have enough pressure to pick up over 800 lbs. When the 4way spools hits a certain pressure it will open up and bypass to the reservoir. I shimmed the spring but didn't help. What can I do to increase the hydraulic pressure to my loader. When pressure comes out of the transport valve it is single acting. When it goes through the 4way spool it changes to double acting. My loader is double acting.

You can install wider cyl to increase the lift capacity, but it will be slower because the gpm of the pump is low volume. This is my Series III with a similar double-acting valve...

The tractor from the factory was for one-way cylinders and rated at 3,700 psi. Having that add-on valve in the system lowers the system pressures down to probably 2,200 psi?? because it has its own relief valve built into it. Shimming it up to 3,000 psi or more might actually cause the valve casting to break. If you have one-way cylinders on the loader, just plug into the transport valve coupler.

Do you mean larger diameter cylnders

I guess you need to actually plug a gauge into a coupler and measure your pressure.....What is the O.D. of the cylinders barrel ??....like 2 1/2" diameter outside??

The pressure coming out of the transport valve is over 3,000 the 4way spool changes it over to double acting cylnders and the pressure out of it is 700 psi.

Most new 4 way valves that I have seen have an adjustable relief valve to set the pressure. I don't know what you added shims too. But if it was the relief valve I would think you would have more pressure.

Is the 4 way valve hooked up in the circuit from the pressure link or is it plugged into the single spool outlet?

It is plugged into the high pressure transport valve which is single acting.

It is plugged into the transport valve which is single acting. Does it have to be a Allis 4way spool or will other brands work. By going through the 4way spool it changes the system into a double acting.

You just have the wrong valve, you my be able to change/shim the relief valve, but you need more PSI on the loader.

My valve doesn't have a relief valve. I would just shim the relief valve till I got the loader to lift what I wanted. I know the correct police will be all over me!

If it doesn't have a pressure adjustment and only puts out 700 lbs, I'd be very nervous about doubling the pressure coming out of it. Hyd Surplus has new valves cheap enough that I'd just buy a new one. The pressure adjustment on the Prince on mine is under a threaded cap. Turned mine up to 2500 lbs and don't have any lift issues.

Did you ever plug a pressure gauge into the tractors one-way outlet and verify the tractor had MORE than 3,000 psi ?? Actually they were rated at 34-3700 psi.

I order a new prince valve with a relief of 1500 to 3,000 and it should be in Tuesday. I think the old valve on the tractor was just worn out. Thank you for your comment.
