I posted a bit back about this backhoe. It has a 239 CID cummins diesel. I was having trouble getting it to run right. It would start and run for 15 seconds and die. Then after cranking some more I might get it running. It does not run right. This happened all of a sudden. I changed the fuel filters and the same thing. So yesterday I was looking at the injector pump, and as some suggested here, there looked to be a big fitting on the fuel input line. I pulled it apart and sure enough there was a screen in the line. It was really clogged. I cleaned it all up and put it back together thinking I got it now. Bled the system and got it running but the same thing, no power, ran for a bit and stalled again. Like I did nothing. I'm getting frustrated, is it new injector time?
 
My advise is a pump reseal. 9 times out of 10 the flex ring has fallen apart and is plugging off fuel return. Loosen the bolts at the timing window enough to leak and see if it runs. This will allow return fuel pressure to drop. If it runs without dying while leaking you need a flex ring. This is a very common/ easy repair. Find a reputable pump shop or man you are comfortable with and ask for a reseal. Should cost 400-450 bucks to get her done. If you spend much more you are being taken advantage of. Much less be careful. Some guys do them really cheap, but are cutting corners. Get it done once, right. I would be glad to help you out if you dont find some one in your area . No, not injector time...it"s what Al says...BTDT with a 3020 JD years ago...the fuel ring disintegrates, sends little chunks thru the system, and clogs it up. Cleran it, runs for a bit. Very common problem. Sent my pump to a rebuilder in So MN, still works fine. Maybe 25 years ago? Then- Mike at Diesel Specialties, 800-966-2198.
