Fuse in D17

Just bought a D17 that was my FIL's - first Allis I've ever owned. Son drove it off the trailer and "tried" to turn the lights on as we got home at 9:00. Absolutely nothing turned on and he shut off the switch (simple push pull switch). This afternoon we had to move it again and turned the key and hit the starter - and nothing. Put battery charger on for a couple hours and it fired up. This thing had been sitting in a shed and started occasionally and never had a battery issue (until I owned it naturally). I am assuming the light switch may be the culprit. Can I remove the fuse in the dash to keep power from the lights and other items that might drain the battery?

I know I need to break out the manual and its on order.

One thing to check is that the positive side of the battery is ground. I bought a D17 doing the same thing. Previous owner had battery connected backwards and fried the major components on the electrical system. Nothing $250 couldn't fix though. Before I got it fixed I just unhooked the battery after each use.

Positive ground - correctly hooked up. As I said it had sat in a shed for 4 years with occasional starts without an issue (they had it hooked to grinder mixer).

Jump across the starter solenoid in neutral. If it starts, you probably have no power to key. Check for loose or corroded connection.
