C allis chalmers questions

I am looking at C Allis Chalmers for sale. 2 Questions.

#1-- How well does a C Allis handle a 9 foot sickle mower with hydraulic?

#2 Is it hard to put a pump on a C without a hydraulic?

Thanks---adam

I"m guessing a 9 foot mower on a Model C might be a stretch...depends on how heavy the hay is, and how fast you want to drive. The C is only a 3 speed.

Regarding adding a pump....I remember some B or C that had a rear housing with a circular cap on the side. Others had a flat plate. The flat plate could be removed and an AC pump installed. With the circular plate, seems like you"d have to replace that cast housing, behind the differential, with one with the flat plate, or a pump already on it. The pump from a CA will not work, since it is a 4 plunger pump, like the WD/WD45. B/C pump is a 2 plunger pump.

9 foot no way but they made a 6 footer for the B/C. As for the hyd pump that was an option and should not be all that hard to find one but it did have a draw back since it was not live hyds. Send me an e-mail and I'll send you the manual for the sickle bar mower made for the B/C

The Allis pump was low volume high pressure. Not really the best for running modern hyd cylinders. You'd be better off looking for a WD or WD45. They still had the high pressure pump, but are 10x the tractor that a C is. And can be had for about the same money.

If you're in light or second cutting DRY hay with a good sharp mower, it can handle it. HOWEVER put her down in thick heavy wet fescue etc. it will sure sure crowd it!!!! While high pressure and volume (plus LIVE hydraulics) are preferred, it don't take all that much hydraulics to raise a sickle mower. Its a mater of "getting by" in ONLY light dry hay orrrrrrrrrr needing the power and hydraulics for a heavier job.

Your choice not ours

My C has a 6 foot mid mounted scycle bar mower. You would not want a lot more in heavy hay. Adding an auxiliary hydraulic pump would be a
challenge. Not much clearance between the front pulley and the radiator.
