d17 three point.

New to the forum....thanks for having
me. Just bought a series 4 d17 and want
to convert to 3 point. Can I use the 3
point from a 190xt without swapping the
whole rock housing?

From what I understand the series 4 should have a 3 point unless if was ordered with out one. As for the 190 parts the 190 would be a cat 2 3 point and a D-17 should be a cat 1.

All the series IV D17's around here were cat. II factory three point hitch. I've seen series IV's with snap coupler in pictures, but never been close to one to look it over. By your question I assume you have observed the similarities between the three point hitches on the D17IV-170-180-190 series tractors. Indeed, they look identical, and I'm sure many of the parts are the same. If you don't have another tractor you can look at, you could start by comparing parts numbers on AGCO parts on line. The real key here, which I don't know, is whether the rear housing on a three point vs. a snap coupler tractor is the same. Changing the rock shaft housing could be the least of your concerns.

A factory 3 point from a 170/175/180/185 will bolt right up to a D17 Series IV without changing the rear housing. Some of the parts off a 190XT 3 point will interchange but don't think it's a full interchange however a 190 3-point will swap to the older D19. Original D17 Series IV factor 3-point had fixed lift arm crank handles, not the later hundred series folding ones so that's one way you can tell if it is more likely that the 3 point is original to the tractor.

D17 Series IV/170/175/180/185 were all Category Two 3-points. D15's were Category One. Also, 3-point was an option on Series IV, not standard. Lots of Snap Coupler D17 Series IV tractors out there. Mike

I didn't know until recently, when I bought a series II D15 and got a manual, that there was a whole optional hyd. system for the D15 which was very similar to the series IV D17 !! Boy I'd love to have one of them!

Thanks for all the good information. Is there a special way to set up a three point on these so Tha the traction booster and draft control is maintained?

I don't know what's on your snap coupler console. The three point tractor has both traction booster and position control levers, and all the associated linkage. The draft is effected by a torsion bar between the draft arms, with linkage running up into the console. There is also feed back linkage from the right lift arm going into that mess under the console.

If you swap a 3 point off a 170 or 175 all the linkages would be the same as the D17 Series IV to bolt right up and make the traction booster work. Linkages are a bit different on 180/185 but likely can be made/adapted if you have a correct one to copy/study. Mike

Airman a 3 point off a 190 will not work on your series 4 D17. I tried it years ago. Where are you located? I have a add on 3 point for a D17 that I would sell cheap. I am in South Central Iowa.
