WD 45 carburetor

I put a kit in carburetor and my ITT and operators manual only give idle adjustment specs. I have idle set at about 2 turns out and idles fine. I have the load set at 2 1/2 turns out and want to know about how far out it needs to be for heavy loads. I don't have anything to hook it to to see what it will do. Taking her to to tractor pull this weekend.

With engine warmed up, open the throttle full and open the power needle until you see black smoke..then turn it back in until the engine falters..then open it back up until it just smooths out ( For Light Loads)..open it 1/4 to 1/2 turn more for heavy loads..

You need not see black smoke when it is set for heavy loads..

Throttle response is better ( when Cold) with it set richer..but they are "Cold-Natured" when cold anyway...!!

The difference in perceived power is noticeable and the chances of burning a valve are greatly reduced..

Thank you Bushogpapa . The manuals don't give you much of any thing about adjusting the carb.

My original WD45 manual does give the details for how to tune the carb. Bushog Papa has already stated the essence of the principle.

Our two WD-45's were our "Big Tractors" back then, with 2 '52 JD "B" tractors and all would be in the field working..

With the WD-45's, our fields were often 1/2 mile long, so you got to admire the work the WD-45's would do..

We always pulled 4x14" (Semi-Mounted)..Dad's came with 4x14"...

With ALL 4 tires Loaded (Calcium) and a weight in front of the radiator you seldom needed to steer with the Brakes..(Always in 2nd gear).

At night you sometimes could go way late into the night by plowing with only the Red/Orange Glow from the upper 1/2 of the muffler and the constant 14" high Blue Flame standing above it,,!!!
Yea, I still have one of them, use it often, mostly only for mowing, but it is ready anytime..

When it came time for an overhaul, I put M&W "Power Kits" (D-17 Kits) in both of the AC's and changed to 12V..
