what oil should i put in my WF final reduction

hi I am ivor from uk and I have a WF where the oil is leaking in the inside of back wheel what seal has gone and is it easy to replace and what oil should I use to replace.. thanks in advance

The seals are available in the U.S. anyway. My brother did a WD a few years back and had no trouble getting them. Try this site, or Sandy Lake Implement in Sandy Lake Pennsylvania. Talk to Brenda in the parts dept. if you call Sandy Lake. You can find them on the internet I am sure. If not me or someone else can give you the no. As for oil, I think the manual calls for 140 weight gear oil. Might be hard to find, 90 or 80-90 is more common not and will work. Let us know how you do.

Sandy Lakes number is 724-376-2489 and they do have a web site. Several companies make a 85-140 gear oil and can be found in almost any auto supply.

WF is completely different than a WD. WC uses a very large plate that covers the gears from the side. You'd have to pull the tire and hub to get the plate off to put a new gasket on. Not sure anyone sells that gasket. There is also a gasket between the hub and cover plate. OK Tractors shows the hub seal at $50 per. Don't see any of the sites selling the cover gasket. Big sheet of cork gasket material should work just fine.

Aaron has covered the seal issue- just a note that if you choose to replace seals on both wheels...DO NOT interchange the hubs. There is a shallow spiral grove on the outer diameter of the hub...it is supposed to move any slight oil leakage back to the inside. Interchanging hubs would make the oil push to the outside. The WF setup is the same as the WC and RC.

thanks for all replies I will enquire about new seal and also is 140 oil available also last time tractor was running it was not good I will check distributor and rotor and fit new leads and plugs but I will fix rear seal first.. I have a sawbench which was bought second hand by my late father 60 years made by the Atlas Foundry at Shrewsbury probably the tractor is relatively new compared to the saw bench and I intend mounting the saw bench on a suitable frame and also mounting a frame on the tractor where both can be joined together

I made a mistake, my brother did a WC. I know there is a difference and it was a typo, sorry, but others have corrected it anyway. Tom

New seal in the final drives and for lube, use corn head gearbox grease from a Deere or Hugger corn head.
