Allis Chalmers 1942 C Hydraulic Pump

I took the hydraulic pump off to clean it up before painting it on the outside. However, now I am not sure how to get the intake valve in (ya, I know. . . a cardinal sin not to keep track or take a picture...my bad). I have the intake valve plug, a spring, an intake valve ball, a plunger, and an intake valve insert. Now the plunger does not show up in my manual diagram. The head of it does not fit either into the valve plug or the valve insert. By my manual, it looks like the ball fits on top of the valve insert...and maybe then rides in ridge in the valve control, but that looks like an invitation to lose the ball in the gears. Before I go further and lose the ball, I am going to holler for help. Thanks in advance.

Dick has a drawing taken from the manual

the above drawing is correct for the B and C hydraulic pumps. I don't now what " plunger" you are talking about on the suction side.

Interesting. On the outlet side, I have one opening at the base of the main housing. When I took out the control shaft, a spring from this opening pushed a thimble up into where the shaft was. Now it could have been assembled wrong by a previous owner, and I do not know if the hydraulics worked or not. But what I have looks like the plug, then thimble, spring, plunger and ball. They are inserted from the opening below and the ball looks like it fits into the rim of the control shaft. I will put it together and see what happens. Thanks
