WC - magneto questions

I have never worked on or seen the inner workings of a mag system until today. My earlier post down below is about the starting of a tractor that sat for a couple of years. It now has no spark. I ordered points, plugs, and condenser from NAPA today; will have it tomorry. Filed down the points this afternoon but still don't have spark. It is a FM mag. The question I have is how many lobes are supposed to be on the magneto shaft. It looks like two. (I can't see all that well). I see that there are gears inside that I guess spins the rotor at a different rate (either half or twice as fast.) I am assuming with these new parts it should run. If not, how or what would I want to test. Again, I did have it running for a short time last nite, and it ran a few years ago. Also, NAPA says I should use AC 265 plugs. It has AC 66 in it presently. Does this sound right?

Thanks again for your input.

Send me an e-mail and which mag it has. Could be one of 2 fair banks mags. FMJ is one of them. I have the manual for the 2 common mags on them in this computer so I can then send you a copy of the manual

tmhoodatptddotnet I don't know which it is, but I can look tomorrow. I took the tractor to work. It is a 1939.

Are you on modern of classic view?? If on classic click on the send e-mail in the bottom corner if on modern click on my handle and that will send you to there e-mail set up

The mag will only have two lobes. The gears will have to be timed correctly so the rotor will be in the correct position when the points open.

If it will not work after the new points are I stalled and gapped. You most likely have a bad coil. If the coil is sticky to touch, or has cracks. It is going bad. FM mags are known for having bad coils..
