I am usually on tractor tales and tractor talk, but recent events has caused me to write to you folks. I had a 39 WC follow me home this after noon.
It hadn't been running for a couple of years but wasn't stuck. I drained the gas, rinsed several times, spun the engine to look for spark on a pulled spark plug, squirted oil into the cylinders and let it go while I ate dinner. Came out about a half hour later, buttoned everything up and started it on the third or fourth yank. Smoked for a few seconds while it burned the oil out and then settled down for about 45 seconds almost perfectly. Then it started to miss and within another 15 seconds it died. Fuel is good, but this time when I checked the spark I had none. Checked the rotor and cap and cleaned them, although they did not look too bad to start with. Should I break the bank and get a set of points and condenser?
Would appreciate your thoughts, and thank you for your time.
