WD Hand Clutch Plates Stuck

My WD hand clutch has never worked, now that I am bailing I really need it. The lever moves fine and under the cover I see the pivots moving, even have the good "snap". I do not see the plates move at all - should I? Is it possible the plates are just corroded together and could be separated without taking the whole tractor apart? Thanks.

A couple of questions; was there water in the oil?
Is the fluid up to the proper level?
I guess if it were mine, I would make sure the oil level was full. Then, I would leave the hand clutch in the disengaged position and use the tractor with the expectation that it might "break loose". Using it on heavy loads might help. Using it on the baler (as unhandy as it is) might be just what is needed to free up the clutch. The surging of the baler might "shock" it loose.

Drain oil and replace with the red automatic transmission fluid. It will clean and break the clutches loose. Run it that way for several hours under a load then you can replace fluid, or just leave it in there. It worked on my D-17. Dave

Thanks for the ideas - I'll leave the lever disengaged and see what happens. What is it about transmission fluid that helps? I guess it's about time to change the fluid anyway.

Beleive it or not this works sometimes, add weight so tires wont spin as easy,(plow,Disc), with the hand clutch disenguaged place the front of the tractor against a stout tree with the foot clutch. For some reason it seams to work better than loading the tractor up from the draw bar or pto.
