Timeing On a model G Engine

Want to check the timing on this G I know what the digress are are suppose to be and i see the mark is on the crank pulley but what do you reference that mark on the pulley to i do not see any thing on the eng. to reference to.

Don, you're supposed to view the pulley mark through this handy dandy hole in the engine cover,
only problem is most folks have this and the hood off when working on the engine!
So straight down is what you're after when #1 (rear cylinder)is firing
