Starter removal

My WD45 starter will not come out of housing. Removed the set screw and starter moved out 1/2 " then hit something solid. Dismantled the starter but the nose cone still won't come out. Turns free until casing hits the flywheel. Any ideas?

Keep working it in and out. Good chance it has some rust built up between where it goes into the bell housing and flywheel which can make them a bear to pull out. You also might try pulling it out as far as you can then pour some ATF on it then push it back in and do tha ta few times so as to get the ATF on the rust to help free it up

I will try that. I have the starter apart and a friend that rebuilds them. Hoping he can do so as is.
