D14 Carb-Any Hope?

My Dad is working on a 1957 Allis D14 that has set for many years. He took the carb apart and it is completely corroded inside. The float is rusted to the inside of the float bowl. We have rebuilt carbs before, but this is the worst one that we have seen. When they get this bad, are they repairable or would it be better to look for a different one? Also, if he rebuilds this one, what would be the best way to get the rust off the inside of the float bowl? Can they safely be sand blasted, or would this really plug up the passages? Thanks

I've had a couple like that and to me for all the work it would take to clean it up it is a lost cause. Rusted up that bad the passageways will be full of rust so not likely to be able to save it

I'd be looking for another carb and then drop that one in a bucket of diesel fuel and burnt motor oil mix pull it out in about a year, sometimes they can be used sometimes not.

From the picture I can't tell what the crud actually is. Not sure how it could get that full of just rust. Probly a lost cause but I boil all the carburetors I work on. I use a half cup of laundry soap to a half gallon of water. You might give it a try to see how soft it gets and how much boils out.
The way I do it is with a hot plate.

Thanks for all the replies, I think we will do as all of you said and start looking for another Marvel Shebler TSX 670 carb. Probably will throw it in a container of some diesel or atf and let it sit for a while and see what happens, but get a different carb to use now.

I have cleaned several rusty carbs like that, BURN it out. Some of you will disagree, but it works if you are careful. I use my cutting torch with a small hot flame, and go over the rust and it pops right off. Go over a few times, some scraping with your pocket knife, and wire brushing, then it is good as new. DONT get it too hot and melt the bras. You will still have to poke out the holes. Those little plastic handle wire brushes at the dollar store are just right in the bowl.
