D15 Series II ring pinion

I'm fixing the D15 to sell and found gear chips in the rear end. The differential ring gear looks good but the pinion is bad. Questions I have are, first, what else should I look for that may have caused the problem? The pinion bearings seem ok and don't feel loose. Second, what other models use these gears? I searched these archives and didn't find an answer but another forum response indicated that CA gears would fit a D15. Does the Series II use the same ratio as the earlier D15? These Series II gears are 6 and 37 tooth. Finally, where is the best place to get replacement gears? Sorry about the duplicate picture.

If I remember, Ill ask my Dad what all he replaced in the rear end of our Series II D15. His D15 may have been in worse shape-I thikn he got some of the parts from the dealer, more used from may phine calls to bone yards, and I think there was something that he ended up having his machinist friend fix-because of how expensive and/or hard it was to find.

In my lifetime, I've replaced two of those from having a partial tooth missing on the pinion. The ring gear looked fine. In all honesty, they weren't built strong or large enough for a plowing tractor. No where near as big as the WD-45 they replaced. That one looks really bad and it makes me wonder if the PTO seal had been leaking at some time and ran it low on oil ??

Dads guess is ran with out oil.
Our first start for parts would be:
Truesdell Farm Parts
3695 Clayton Pike
Manchester, OH 45144

This link may give you help too.

Dad also said on reassembly the axel bolts need sealer.

Thanks for the responses. The tractor was not running (engine seized) when I got it and I had to rebuild the engine first. When I then drained the power director it had water in it and new oil ran on the floor. The soft plug on the front PTO bearing was pushed out. Fixed that and filled everything with oil but thought rear end noise indicated a bad bearing so parked it for a few years. The double PTO shaft seals were bad so very likely the transmission also drained out through the front PTO bearing. I just figured the water got in, froze and pushed the plug out after the engine seized, but maybe not.
