WD-45 Running rough

My WD 45 gas spits and pops and not running smooth. I have done the following: new zenith carburetor, electronic ignition, new spark plugs, new coil, cannot find the right adjustment on the carburetor. Have not put a timing light on the engine but I have tried rotating the distributor to no avail. I am beginning to think that I have a faulty carburetor. I will appreciate any suggestions and I am ready to try most anything. I am currently using the tractor with a finishing mower doing a half way job. Thanks in advance for any help. NormanO

Spits gas out of the carb and you replaced parts before trouble shooting NEVER the correct way to do things.
Spitting gas say to me you need to adjust your valves or you have a burnt valve or two. The popping also say the same thing.
I would still check your spark and make sure you have a good blue/white spark at all the plug wires that jumps a 1/4 inch gap or more.
Then pull the carb drain plug and make sure you have a good steady flow of gas for it that will fill a pint jar in less then 3 minutes

Did you replace the ignition switch? Sometimes a worn out and rusty ignition switch will miss, backfire, etc. I know firsthand. Maybe you can bypass it and see.

Thanks for responding. I Didn't mean spitting gas buy rather spitting sound as well as popping. I will check the other things that you mentioned. Maybe change the plugs. The valves are out of my mechanical skills ability. Perhaps I will get someone else to check this. Thanks again for your help Norman

That sound also say good chance you have a valve type problem. If you do not have one buy an I-T shop manual it will tell you how to check things like valve tappet gap. Not a hard job to do.
